An Introduction from your 2025/26 Captain, Emlyn Pickup

Graham Hall Club Captain 2022/23

My name is Emlyn Pickup and I am honoured to be the Club Captain for the 2025/26 season.

I was a relative late comer to the game of golf and joined NGC 12 years ago. In that time, I have had the privilege of captaining both the Rabbits sections and the EGGS Seniors section and hope to bring that experience to my role as club Captain. As captain of N.G.C., I will be dedicated to fostering an inclusive environment, where golfers, of all ages, backgrounds and ability feel valued and respected and empowered to enjoy their golf.

We have a thriving sectional club, women’s, scratch, net, mid-handicap, tigers, rabbits, EGGS, and junior’s sections. I will be supporting every section of the club, please support and get involved in these sections, not only will your golf improve you will meet new like-minded golfers and make new friends.

Visitors thinking of playing the course, I can guarantee, based on feedback, that you will enjoy your visit. The variation in holes and the Mackenzie style greens means that every time you play the course it always seems to play differently, and after the game you will always find a warm welcome in the 19th.

My chosen charity as the 2025/26 captain of Normanton golf club is the Alzheimer’s society and on behalf of my mum, (Marjorie Pickup), my family and everybody affected by dementia, I want to raise as much cash as possible to help those suffering from and helping people with this awful disease.

I will be having a number of events in support of the society including a weekly competition (Thursdays). In addition, on Sunday 21st September the club will acknowledge “world Alzheimer’s day” with a special competition. With your help I hope to raise as much money as possible and to assist with this, I have set up a JustGiving page (google ‘Just Giving Emlyn Pickup’ and gift whatever you can afford. By supporting these events you are also supporting the club financially, and every bit helps.

I’m looking forward to my year as captain and I would like to wish everyone a great and successful golfing year, whether that be winning, maintaining or reducing your handicap, that elusive hole in one, or that 300-yard drive or in my case 200 yards.
