An Introduction from your 2026/27 Captain, Bob Craven

Bob Craven Club Captain 2026/27

I’m Robert Craven (Bob) and I’m honoured to be the Club Captain for the 2026/27 season.  I’ve played here since Normanton GC took over from the original Hatfield Hall, in fact I believe I was one of the first none members to join the new club. A friend and I got a handful of golfers together and formed ‘The Graziers Golf Society’, which quickly grew to over forty players and since those early days my love of golf and the club have never waned.

Just like our original group, the club itself also grew, and the course has matured, developed and improved significantly over the years I have been here. Visitors and societies looking for a challenge on a varied layout and who want to experience a true test of golf, should come and play Normanton as it will give you that experience. Our facilities are also constantly being upgraded and you can be assured of a very warm welcome in the clubhouse.

My chosen charity for my Captain’s year is ‘Heart Research UK’, and I will endeavour to raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause. Along with my charity fund raising, I will also be supporting the course development here at Normanton,  and will be doing a 60% / 40% split of funds raised between my Charity and the course development fund.

As part of my fund raising, I will be having a weekly 9 hole ‘Heart Research Uk’ Charity competition, held each Thursday, with a prize for the best 10 rounds over the year, (1st prize will be a 4-ball voucher at the excellent Pike Fold Golf Club). The competition is open to all members and I hope you will support it and help me raise as much money as possible.

I am really looking forward to my year as captain and I would like to wish everyone a successful golfing year, so, whether your aim is to reduce your handicap, achieve that elusive ‘Hole in One’, or finding that extra 10 yards on your drive,  please enjoy your golf.
