Over the last few years Normanton Golf Club has developed a growing Tigers section, that caters for players with a 0 to 15 handicap. The Tigers enjoy playing friendly and competitive golf throughout the season and in 2021 joined a second league to play in.
The Tigers now compete in the Heavy Woollen (HW) League and the North Leeds 8-15 Invitation League (8-15), where 4 pairs play both Home and Away fixtures throughout the season before enjoying a meal after each round. By competing in 2 leagues, the Tigers section can have 16 players representing Normanton Golf Club a week and be able to compete against many local teams with excellent courses.
In addition to these fun matchplay events, we also have the Arnold Skinner Trophy and the Collin Ainsworth Trophy.
We also hold an annual Rabbits and Tigers Open Day, to be held this year on Saturday 21st June 2021. We will post regular updates of the Tigers section, including results after each fixture on our website and the Club Notice Board.
The Tigers Section is welcoming and friendly and we would love any new members. The section is organised by Tom Giles and Roy Smith, who are both keen competitive golfers. You can find out more about them further on.
We look forward to hearing from you.
I am a keen golfer and like most people, I am striving to improve with as little practice and money spent as possible! I’ve been playing golf for around 10 years, managing to get my handicap down to the low single figures before taking a pause in golf for a few years whilst I went off to University.
Since finishing University I’ve moved into the area and joined Normanton Golf Club around 3 years ago. I love playing the course, as it is challenging and seems to play different every day. I enjoy the social aspect of golf, chatting away, laughing at mine and my playing partner’s shots and a beer in the sun after the round.
I’m a Solicitor and Manager, predominantly based in York but travel across the Country to attend Court or visit clients where necessary. I enjoy anything regarding sport and I’m a firm believer in mental health. I combined the two in 2019 and raised £5000 for Movember Foundation by completing an IronMan triathlon – 15 hours of gruelling pain (you thought 3-putting was bad!).
I’m excited to help lead the Tigers section to success whilst ensuring the section is both friendly and transparent.
I am a Quality and Environmental Manager at a local large multinational manufacturer and supplier of healthcare equipment. I am a very organised and driven person and I believe in a good work-life balance, and golf is a great outlet from the day to day stresses of work.
I have been playing golf for over 30 years. Prior to being at Normanton I had been a member at Immingham GC and Lofthouse Hill GC, before the course had officially opened! I am a very competitive person and I like to win! I have previously captained the Tigers sections at Lofthouse and captained the Nett Team from 2011-2019; guiding them from Division 4 to Division 1 in only four seasons!
Alongside playing golf and working, I have successfully helped form Woodkirk Valley Junior Football Club and assisted in the running of it.
I look forward to leading a successful and inclusive Tiger Section at Normanton Golf Club.
