Our Golf system supplier, Club Systems, in conjunction with their subsidiary, HowDidiDo, hold an annual competition in support of Prostate Cancer UK. At the start of each season, club members can join a season long eclectic competition for just £5, all of which goes to the charity. The ClubV1 golf system automatically tracks your eclectic score over the season. Over 5,300 members from Golf Clubs around the UK took part this year, the top 16 take part in a two day play-off, this year hosted by Castle Stuart Golf Club.
One of those finalist was our very own Jon Hathaway, pictured above (right), who was 11th in the Eclectic league. Jon was therefore invited to the play-offs and actually went on to win the finals with 42 points. Well done Jon, a good result for you and our club.
"Just a thanks to Normanton for being part of HowDidiDo so that i got the chance to enter this competition, and a big thanks to all the guys and girls that do all the hard work to make these events happen. I hope we can get a lot more golfers to donate the £5 to Prostate Cancer UK next season, so that they also get the chance to have the experience that I've had these last few days". Jon Hathaway
The other big winner was Prostate Cancer UK, as the initiative raised £37,800 for the charity!
One man dies every 45 minutes from Prostate Cancer - that's 5 men in the time it takes to play a round of golf. Prostate Cancer is the most common cancer in men, and it is predicted that by 2030 will be the most common cancer in the UK. The money raised will be a great help to beat it.
The event will run again next season. We had 12 NGC members support it this year - lets see if we can have many more next year! Look out for the details in early spring 2019.
