Captain's Monthly Update - October

Thank You to all of the Captains, organisers and players of all of the sections who have represented NGC this year.

The annual sections team challenge took place on Saturday 25th August with the Ladies, EGGS, Rabbits & Tigers all providing strong teams. The day went ahead very well with everyone enjoying the event which was won by the Tigers section. Thanks to all of my Tigers team mates with a great win.

On Sunday 26th August the Leeds & District Golf Union held their finals day at Scarcroft GC, NGC had a team playing in the inaugural seniors final which consisted of myself, Dave Finch and Graham Hall. From the first tee at 1.00pm the rain never relented for the whole round, however it was well worth it with NGC gaining a 4-2 win against Temple Newsam to claim the trophy.
I would also like to thank Des Lawson who played in every round but was unable to play in the final.

Thank you to Adrian Bellwood, Gav Bateson Mike Copley and Richard Poynton for representing NGC at the Leeds & District Golf Union 2nd Division Championships that was held at Mid Yorkshire (Darrington) GC. Unfortunately our team were unable to finish in the mix but once again gents well done and Thank you.

NGC were victorious in the Festival Trophy that was hosted by Low Laithes. A big thank you to all of our 12 players who played for NGC and bringing the trophy home, in particular John Snelling who took charge of the team on the day.

The EGGS section held another successful open day on 18th September. Over 150 players entered the event which also raised £180 for my charity. Thanks again in particular to Graham and Anita Fox.
I was delighted at the amount of comments that were made about the great condition of our golf course and the service and quality they received from the staff. Well done Dave and your staff for the excellent condition of the course and Thank you to all of the staff for your hard work and support in recent weeks with providing a great service to our members and visitors since the resignation of our previous steward / stewardess.

I would also like to add that having played at a few other Golf courses in recent weeks our Golf course has by far been in the best condition and greens miles ahead of the others, so please support our greens staff.

Regarding the general layout of our course, just because something is not to your particular liking, take a step back and consider the golf course being set up and suitable for everyone, male, female young and old to play.

I am somewhat disappointed with the lack of respect some of our members are not giving to our course, numerous clearly visible pitch marks unrepaired, footprints in bunkers not raked when there is a rake available at the side of footprints and litter discarded on the course rather than put into a bin. These issues are continually occurring, so please wherever possible ensure you personally do what you need to do or point things out to other members or your playing colleagues if you see them not complying as above.

Congratulations to all of the recent Medal Play off winners, Dave Finch, Tom Brook and Simon Dodgson in their respective Divisions. Well done Gents. Further congratulations to  Adam Campbell Forsyth, one of our previous captains, who was the winner with his playing partner from Garforth GC at the recent Society of Leeds Golf Captains event at Selby GC.

On Saturday 29th September the inaugural Jack Fox Memorial Trophy event was held with well over 100 players entering. Jacks daughter , Lisa asked me to pass on her thanks to everyone who supported the event. Some good scores were posted but everyone was denied by the team consisting of Chris Tandy, Gary Varley and Dan Stamp, well done gents.

Well done to team Europe with retaining the Ryder Cup. Many Thanks to Will McNally and his young team at the recent challenge on Ryder cup Sunday. A great event that was played in good spirit and ended in a draw.  It was also great to see many members in the clubhouse afterwards  having a good drink and supporting team Europe watching on the “big screen” with a great atmosphere.
It might be the way forward !!

As the golf season draws to a close please continue to support your club as we look forward to the end of season event.

Thank you for your continued support.
