Welcome message from new Club President – Mick Gaughan

Firstly to all Normanton Golf Club members I would like to say a big thank you for your support in electing me as your new Club President.

Due to the fact that I’m a 7 day member you are likely to see me either on the course or in the clubhouse on a regular basis. If anyone has any issues, be it positive or negative, I will listen to your views and discuss them, where appropriate, in the boardroom with the relevant director and where required a response will be forwarded.

Just a brief history on myself: I started playing golf at the age of 10, representing Normanton Golf Club at all levels and eventually playing for the scratch team. My handicap is steadily declining from the heights that I had reached, due mainly to old age!!! I later became a director of junior golf, which was at the time, a well-supported section with over a 100 members. Unfortunately over the year’s these numbers have dramatically declined. However, lately the section is starting to grow, due to Scott’s Saturday Junior Academy. So all you dads grandads, mums and grandmas please try and encourage your children or grandchildren to come along and join in the fun.

Finally, I would like to thank Peter Cumberworth for all his hard work and efforts over the last few years and also to wish Brian Addy all the very best in his year as Club Captain. Furthermore, I would like to offer my best wishes to Dean Mountain this year’s Vice-Captain and also offer my congratulations to John Watson on becoming Vice Vice Captain.

Kind Regards
Mick Gaughan
Club President
